David Musto

David Musto has been on the faculty at the Wharton School since 1995, and has served as Chairperson of the Finance Department since 2013. He is also a senior financial economist with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Prior to coming to Wharton, Musto worked as a programmer for Trout Trading Company and a systems consultant for Roll & Ross Asset Management. His research interests include capital markets, consumer credit, and financial intermediation. His work has appeared in numerous publications including the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Financial Economics. He has been recognized for his teaching and research with awards including the 2015 Teaching and Curricular Innovation Award for the Wharton MBA program, a best paper award from McMaster University’s Annual Conference on Market Structure & Market Integrity, and two nominations for the Smith Breeden Prize. Musto holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University and a doctorate in finance from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago.
